Our Home

Central Kansas, where the prairie and Smoky Valley meet.

We call it the COOP building.

It was built in 1919 by Tom Collier for the Farmers Union COOP in Marquette, Kansas. At 16,000 square ft., it is the largest building in downtown Marquette and has been occupied by many different businesses over the years. It has been home to a hardware store, a general store, grocery stores, apartments, a furniture showroom, a bar, and an antique/boutique store.

Now, it’s the perfect home to our distillery.

Visit Marquette and you will find a small community like no other.

Look around downtown and you will see historic old buildings that are occupied, painted and preserved as they were over 100 years ago, including large wall murals. Look further and you will discover the true essence of Marquette today.

The Marquette Spirit

While many small towns are slowly deteriorating, Marquette is a thriving community where many of the residents are friends who share a tremendous amount of pride and determination to keep their home alive and moving forward.

Some recent examples of this community spirit and additions to town include:

  • Kansas Motorcycle Museum, which attracts over 5,000 visitors per year

  • City park with fishpond and fountain

  • Walking trail with disc golf course

  • Free land giveaway - build a new house in Marquette on a free lot!

  • Marquette Learning Center, a former elementary school that was repurposed into an early childhood education center

The Smoky Valley Distillery is proud to become another destination point and one more example of the Marquette spirit by distilling great spirits to match.
