One of Only Two in the World
We're proud to be one of only two distilleries in the world crafting spirits from Kernza — an innovative, perennial grain that could revolutionize agriculture. Developed by The Land Institute in Salina, Kansas — just 25 miles from our distillery — Kernza's deep root system (over 10 feet) makes it one of the most environmentally sustainable grains available.
Our Kernza Whiskey is a blend of corn, malted barley, and Kernza. It's no coincidence that this rare grain yields a truly singular flavor — sitting between the smooth sweetness of a bourbon and the spicy complexity of a rye, with a distinctive nutty character that makes it a must-have for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
Why Kernza Matters
Kernza isn't just a novelty grain — it represents a potential revolution in sustainable agriculture. Its deep perennial root system:
- Prevents soil erosion and builds soil health
- Sequesters carbon from the atmosphere
- Requires less water and fewer inputs than annual crops
- Provides habitat for wildlife and pollinators
By using Kernza in our whiskey, we're supporting this innovative grain's development while creating a product that tells a uniquely Kansas story.
A Kansas Original
It's no coincidence that a grain developed in Kansas produces its most distinctive expression in a Kansas distillery. Our proximity to The Land Institute means we have access to fresh, high-quality Kernza and a connection to the researchers who continue to develop the grain.
When you sip our Kernza Whiskey, you're tasting the intersection of Kansas agriculture, environmental innovation, and craft distilling. There's nothing else like it in the world.
A Perfect Addition for Collectors
This rare whiskey is an essential addition to any collection — offering a taste that's as unique as its story. It's a rare expression that showcases not only craftsmanship but also innovation in both distilling and farming. Don't miss out on this distinctive spirit that merges innovation with tradition.
Tasting Experience
We recommend sipping Kernza Whiskey neat, at least for your first taste. The nutty character with hints of caramel and toasted grains deserves your full attention. Add a few drops of water if you'd like to open up the more subtle flavors.
